THE MUZZLE STATION TOUR

4 Day Muzzle Station Tour, The Clarence, South Island

A unique and personal look into life on one of New Zealand’s most remote working farms, in Kaikōura’s high country. Explore, experience, and embrace farm life as part of a bespoke small-group tour.

Muzzle Station owners Fiona and Guy Redfern and their team, will be giving you an insight into a life where mustering on horseback or by helicopter, and a trip to town by aeroplane is an everyday event.

As the falcon flies, Muzzle Station is not far from Kaikōura, but the journey there is an adventure in itself; negotiating 25 river crossings, including the Clarence River. From Blind Saddle, the highest point, see the outstanding views of the Clarence Reserve and Molesworth Station, also spotting rare alpine plants and birdlife like the rare kārearea /native falcon. At historic Black Spur Hut, once used by rabbiters and musterers you may see riflemen in the Lombardy poplars.

You’ll explore the station’s remote outposts and working musterers’ huts. Soak in the incredible views, fossick for ‘gemstones’ and fossils, picnic and take a dip by the river.

The final night is a celebration of new friendships, hosted by the Redferns in their family home. This is an opportunity to learn more about their ‘Life on Muzzle’, as portrayed in Fiona’s popular autobiography.

Round your incredible experience off with afternoon tea, at the historic Mahunga Homestead, once home of the Acton Adams family who farmed the Clarence Reserve, with gracious host Nikki Baynon.
