Will and Rose Parsons live on 12 hectares overlooking the Wairau lagoons near Blenheim.
They both have deep roots in Marlborough – Will’s great-grandfather Freeborn Parsons was a pioneering Brit who sailed to New Zealand in 1876.
His family has farmed ever since and his local knowledge and love of the land, plants and wildlife of Marlborough comes across in all the Driftwood Eco-tours.
Rose grew up on a remote farm near D’Urville Island in the Marlborough Sounds.
Her family has farmed in the Sounds for six generations and she also worked on the land before qualifying as a graphic designer.
Together Will and Rose enjoy photography, art, music, yoga, cooking, local history and travel.
Will is a DOC concessionaire, a member of the local Ornithological Society, Forest and Bird and he and Rose are both actively involved in restoring their QEII covenanted wetland.
Two notable arrivals the Glossy Ibis and a pair of Fern birds to their wetland has encouraged them to apply for sanctuary status on the wetland and river boundary.
Their dog Tommy (the logo dog), a Jack Russell cross, is also part of the team. He was a keen swimmer until he hitched a ride on Will’s kayak and decided that was the best way to enjoy the scenery.
He also likes making friends with guests, especially if they happen to be eating one of Will’s homemade muffins at the time.
